„Das verzauberte Haar“ ist der fünfte Teil der Villains Reihe und ich habe mich schon sehr auf Gothels Geschichte gefreut. Nach dem lesen habe ich jetzt irgendwie ein bisschen Mitleid mit ihr. Das Cover ist genau wie die anderen Bände gestaltet, auf der Vorderseite sieht man das halbe Gesicht von der jungen Gothel und auf der Rückseite das der alten. Serena Valentino hat einen sehr passenden Schreibstil. Er ist flüssig, leicht zu lesen und bildlich. Grundsätzlich kann das Buch unabhängig von allen anderen gelesen werden, doch der Handlungstrang der drei Schwestern wird auch hier fortgeführt. Für das komplette Lesevergnügen, sollte man die Bände in der richtigen Reihenfolge lesen. Die Handlung ist zu kleinen Teilen an Rapunzel – neu verföhnt angepasst. Allerdings geht es in der ersten Hälfte hauptsächlich um Gothel und ihre Entwicklung. Auch wenn sich diese Hälfte etwas gezogen hat, war es dennoch interessant und ich konnte das Buch nicht aus der Hand legen. In der zweiten Hälfte beschäftigen wir uns mit dem Disney Film. Es war schön zu erfahren, was Gothel gemacht hat, wenn sie im Film nicht zusehen war.
Gothel war für mich, wie alle Bösewichte aus der Reihe, wieder ein sehr komplexer und facettenreicher Charakter. Jetzt da ich ihre ganze Geschichte kennen, hat sich ein kleiner Teil von mir ein Happy End für sie gewünscht. Serena Valentino schafft es jedesmal aufs neue, dass ich mit den Bösen mitfühle. Gothel ist für mich jetzt einfach noch lebendiger und ich werde Rapunzel – neu verföhnt jetzt mit ganz anderen Augen sehen.
Auch die drei Schwestern spielen hier wieder eine führende Rolle und ich man wusste einfach nie genau, kann man ihnen jetzt trauen oder nicht. Ich freue mich jetzt schon sehr auf den sechsten Band. Endlich erfahren wir das Geheimnis der Schwestern und wie es mit Ihnen und Circe weitergehen wird.

Band fünf steht den anderen Teilen in nichts nach, für mich zählt er sogar zu den besten Bänden der Reihe.
Von mir gibt es ein klare Leseempfehlung.

This book WOULD NOT end. Get to the POINT! There was so much of nothing happening.
I'm over the Odd Sisters. All they do is cause pain to the people around them. They help no one! I also hated Gothel. I've always liked "Tangled," but storyline of Gothel's sisters was so out of nowhere. It spent so long talking about her sisters, it glossed over Rapunzel.
I'm going to have to take a break from this series for awhile.

I picked this up because I absolutely love Tangled and Rapunzel. It's my comfort movie and I was excited to learn Mother Gothel's backstory.
I was really entranced in this story in the beginning and was loving the imagery and was excited to continue on. I will say after about the 25% mark I felt as though it started to drag on. There was a lot of events and interesting things that happened early on but after that, the rest was really the same, slower pace.
First off, Gothel was very supportive of her sisters throughout the story so knowing how she ends up treating Rapunzel feels very off. Gothel's personality flipped as soon as we got caught up to the where the movie starts. You can assume it was an attempt at trying to make Rapunzel feel like Gothel was actually her mother so she had to act differently but it still didn't feel right.
Second, the timeline compared to the movie was very weird. It didn't line up in many spots. I'm not sure if this is intended to match up with the movie story perfectly but it definitely was not and that's what I was hoping for.

I am usually a huge fan of these books, but this one was a little hard to get through. It could be because it’s been a slight gap since I read the previous book so connecting the dots between the timelines was always on my mind and distracted me from the story. Still a very interesting twist and I love getting a backstory for Gothel.
Love getting the back story of Gothel! I love how they took lines from Tangled and put them in the book with a different perspective.
