The story started off so slow. It was like the first book all over again for me. I wanted to quit so bad but because I've enjoyed the series so far I persevered through. The three sisters were extra annoying to me. They seem to be young adults but acted like children. So naïve. They had on rose colored glasses about the world and it made the story hard to stomach at times. I enjoyed the reveals about their history and Gothel's history.
Of course, the odd sisters were at it again and took advantage. I knew Gothel was doomed once they showed up.
I will say I've never seen Tangled. I only know bits and pieces about the story of Rapunzel really so maybe that's why this villain's story didn't do it for me. I'm not familiar with her at all, but I was glad to be exposed to the story.
I'm looking forward to a story about just the odd sisters and Circe after them being the background characters for so long.

In comparison to the other Villain Tales, this one was a bit slower. However, it was still a great story.
Graphic: Death
Clever Gothel. Secretive, blackhearted Gothel.
Don't get me wrong, usually I am a huge fan of retellings. But Mother Knows Best does not deserve that title.
Instead of a unique retelling, it is instead a bundle of simplistic (yes, even for Disney), stiffly garbled nonsense with flat characters (especially the Odd Sisters, who are unbelievably irritating and stifling as villains) who end up taking the stage from the actual character whose story is supposed to be given more due diligence.
Shame. Shame on this book, and shame on it existing.
