This one took us to a much darker place than the other villains in this series. Still highly entertaining and I’m still loving when I catch a glimpse of the princess in the way way background.
I didn't care for this book, it deviated a little too much from Tangled's established lore for my taste. Try it if you like, but I didn't really like it.
This book was my favourite in the series so far, not just because Mother Gothel is one of my best Disney villains. Her backstory was so detailed and you start to feel so much sympathy towards her, that when Rapunzel comes into the story, you almost want to take Gothel’s side.
The first 70% of the book I loved. The moment Rapunzel showed up the plot didn’t make sense any more and the ending was disappointing. 3.5 stars.
Brilliant story! Very Interesting to read and having parts of the film at the end made it better
Book 5 of the Villian Series. I read the audiobook as well as the kindle version. This had the same narrator as the previous books in the series and I do like how she narrates the stories, however, she reads so slowly that I usually speed up the book.
This one was probably my favorite in the series so far. It was very dark and atmospheric. It felt like a much fuller picture of Gothel than the pictures you got of the villians in the previous books. I really loved the Queen of the Dead aspect and Sir Jacob!

This book was gifted to me for Xmas with the Cruela book from the same author. I read Evil Thing first and really enjoyed it. Tangled is one of my favorite Disney movies so I was super excited to read Gothel’s story.
The book started strong. I loved the back story with Gothel’s mother and sisters. It’s was very different from what I expected, the characters where well written and I got attached very quickly. But like any good villain back story, something tragic has to happen to put them on their destined path to evil.
The event came out of no where, had the perfect amount of conflict, the consequences was a tiny bit confusing but by then I was hooked on our girl Gothel. I was super excited to see her grow into her new found independence from a neglectful parent and her new responsibilities… I also oddly enough enjoyed reading about her growing father figure relationship with Jacob.
And then the Odd sisters showed up and it was all down hill from there. This was my first book reading about them (pretty sure they were not in the Cruela book) and I have since learned that these are not true stand alone books. The Odd sisters apparently show up in other books in the series too, which could probably explain some of the confusion in later parts… but honestly after they wrecked this story completely for me, I don’t think I really want to know.
The sisters show up out of no where, with no explanation and seems to be the cause, but also not be the cause of a lot of bad stuff happening. Half the time they seem to be trying to help Gothel, then do something to sabotage her, all while calling her sister…
Many times I had to go back a read a section to see if I missed something… it’s was that confusing. While I did enjoy the first half of the story very much, it was not enough to stand against the poor second half. I’m glad read it, but it’s definitely going in the sell/donate pile. I have absolutely no desire to read it again. I will probably pick up the other books in the series because Evil Thing was very good, and I can’t say no to a villain back story… I can only hope the Odd sisters are not as prevalent.

The twist on this novel I was not expecting at all. It is clearly so well thought and written that I had to read it twice!
