Oooo this was a good one!! I really enjoyed reading Mother Gothel’s backstory as well as seeing the missing pieces in some scenes of Tangled.
I am, however, finding the Odd Sisters incredibly annoying and am not really looking forward to the next book that’s all about them. Probably.

This novel was dark. Others in the series have had dark elements as well, but this whole novel was dark. I felt that the story was compelling and actually liked it a lot until the main Rapunzel fairytale came into play. I love Tangled, but once elements from the movie started being incorporated into the story, it felt forced and lost its strange, twisted appeal. Overall, I did enjoy this story, but the ending fell short for me.

I really liked reading this story. It was nice to be able to see more of Gothel's background and what lead her to kidnapping Rapunzel. It helped me to understand her reasoning behind what she did, rather than just being cruel even though what she did was still not entirely appropriate either. It was a nice take on the story.

Wow, an actual origin story! Still too much of the Odd Sisters for my liking but they didn't overtake the narrative like in some of the other books
This book is good, it allowed you to feel and sense every emotion being played out. Excited for the next one.

I really likes this one better. It did had a lot of Gothel's past in it, and it really helped understand her reasons. I do not agree with what we did, but I can understand why she did it. This book gives you a taste of what allowing your ambition to take over your actions can do to you. It's okay to be determined, but when that consumes you, well, it doesn't end well.
Again, the Odd Sisters make an important appearance but don't take protagonism, Gothel does.

I don't give it 5 stars because there are some unanswered questions and some loopholes here and there, and again, everything got resolved in the last chapter, but I loved the world building and the better explanation on how the mirror magic works. I hope everything starts getting cleared up as I keep reading.
