I really enjoyed the book however a lot of characters were introduced towards the end and it wasn't clear who they all were. It also seems to cross between a couple of fairy tales, not just rapunzel which I found strange too. Maybe I don't know enough about the witches story told here or maybe I need to read it again. But up until those last few chapters I really enjoyed the story and way it was written.

I read this in less then 24 hours. I wish I could rate it more the 5 stars! This book was absolutely amazing. I loved the background that Serena wrote for Mother Gothel! Was just perfect for her and made so much sense as to why she was obsessed with the powers of the flower.
I just want to gush about this so much! Gothel's backstory was amazing and probably my favorite of this series so far. I keep saying that in every previous review, but it is true! This series just keeps getting better and better. The backstories are so good and it's kind of a weird jolt when you get to the part of the villains story that we get in the Disney movies.

This volume from the villain stories series tells the early life of Gothel, before she kidnaps little Rapunzel.

Gothel grew up with her two sisters, Hazel & Primrose, in the Deadwood Forrest. Their mother was Queen of the Dead & the latest in a long line of witches tasked with ruling over these woods. They also have the Rapunzel flower to look after, and yes that is where the flower from the movie comes in.

The three sisters just want to be with each other forever, however, their mother has told Gothel that she is the one daughter who is her in soul & that she will end up alone.

Oh, this one was good as well. I liked seeing the relationship with Gothal and her sisters. The only thing I’m not too sure about is the Odd Sisters change. I know it the book it could’ve been a few hundred years, but it just seemed super fast. That epilogue though... Like what is Circe up to, and I love seeing Snow.

I really loved that we started from almost the beginning of Gothel’s life and got deep into her past with her sisters. That was the biggest pro for me. I just wish we could’ve found out more of the secrets involved with her mother and her ancestors so we could really know why keeping the flowers were so important other than staying young. Of course the odd sisters came in and ruined everything. They literally did nothing to help Gothel like they said they would and in this book I just didn’t particularly care for them. Another thing I loved though was the twist that Rapunzel was under a sleeping spell the whole time and in the dreamscape!! Very cool twist. I didn’t very much like that we saw parts of the movie happening through the Sister’s mirrors in the dreamscape because all they were doing was laughing at Gothel and went from wanting to help her to ensure her downfall, which is still meddling! And Circe punishes them for it. I also don’t like to read something that I already know happens because I’ve seen the movie a billion times. At least we got more of Gothel’s perspective at the very end.

Tangled is my absolute favorite Disney movie so I was so excited to read this. I struggled sometimes to keep track of what was gong on in the story which was a little disappointing. It's one of the longer stories within the series and I feel like it may have been a little too long and drawn out.

Didn’t like this one as much as some of the others in this series, but it had its moments (probably a 2.5 star instead of 2). A lot of telling vs showing and stiffness in the writing. I’m really looking forward to the next book in the series though, since it focuses on the Odd Sisters.
