This book can be boiled down to a clit necklace, two protagonists who have absolutely zero chemistry, “women and nonbinary people”, and attempt after attempt to garner as many brownie points as possible.

As a queer nonbinary person, can we please stop treating nonbinary as just like a subset of woman. Jesus Christ.

I understand and appreciate greatly the desire to be inclusive and bring nonbinary people into the conversation but boy howdy not like this please. And reading about people meeting and having them go around in a circle giving their pronouns was physically painful. Those situations are uncomfortable in real life why would you make me read it.

Every instance of Jordan’s identity as a lesbian being brought up was in tandem with a harmful stereotype so that’s just delightful. And speaking of Jordan, she is incredibly childish, irritating, and selfish the entire book. The primary conflict of the book was HER idea, something SHE insisted on, but it’s treated as Astrid’s fault somehow, and Jordan just lets Astrid take the fall for it. Even worse, Astrid is forced to be the one to come crawling back to Jordan for some reason. I just don’t get it. As if her being deeply irritating wasn’t enough, she just treats Astrid badly at basically every single turn through the whole story. I don’t get how this could be construed as a positive relationship.

This was very disappointing after I liked the first book so much, and I had been so excited because I liked Astrid a lot. I’m tired. Best part was when Astrid finally stuck up to her mom.
