Happy Publication Day!
I liked the premise of this book but the execution was a little disappointing.
Sophie became a lady’s companion to a dowager marchioness so she could ruin the Wyverne family. As it turned out the dowager and her grandson, the marquis’s heir, were not as evil as she had expected.
I had a few issues with this book but there were parts that I enjoyed. The story itself is not bad, I like revenge driven drama

Great mixture of the good and the bad, and the bad turned good. The evil step mum, the dashing gentleman, the all seeing dowager. Amusing moments and some tension. A fab story which you shouldn’t miss!

For a romance book, this was so surprising in a number of positive ways. There doesn't seem to be any of the usual tropes present and it was a very pleasant read. Sophie and Rafe were fantastic characters and did the unexpected. Just when I thought that Sophie would object or withdraw or be horrified, she turned out to be quite the opposite in a way that made her a superb protagonist and thoroughly 'modern' woman of the times.
Without any spoilers, I assumed that there would be a power play of wickedness or some underhanded plot that a certain character would use to assert dominance. Pleasantly, the story went in a different direction. Just when I thought that certain things were bound to happen, being a romance genre, they didn't and others did. A very fresh perspective and one I greatly valued.
It was beautifully written and I found it quite hard to stop reading once I had started. This is my third read from Emma Orchard and I must say I have thoroughly enjoyed them all!
4.5 stars rounded to 5. Thank you to Netgalley, and Boldwood books for allowing me the chance to read an ARC. All opinions are my own.

I love a period piece! It's my life mission to watch and read them all. This story had great "bones". The plot was great. I was excited to dive into the story...but in the end, all it was was good "bones" with no meat and saggy skin. The story was equivalent to a Victorian Hallmark Spanish novela. Overly dramatic and cheesy. I was laughing when I should have been swooning.

I don't want to be too spoilerish, but I was really impressed that the author resolved the great misunderstanding so early. I thought I knew how the story was going to play out, but, reader, I did not. The Viscount and The Thief working together?? Yes please!! The rating is for pure originality.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. Nothing ruins a well thought our jewelry heist more than falling for the mark’s son, such is Sophie's dilemma. She has every right to target the Marquess of Wyverne, after all, after stealing from them, he is responsible for the death of her family. Sophie has spent years training for this caper, nothing should stop her; enter Rafe (Lord Drake) and his adorable grandmother. Suddenly Sophie has a conscience and nothing is what it seemed when she was on the outside looking in.
I enjoyed this book, it was charming and an easy read. It is obvious the author spent a great deal of time researching the regency period, and the language and customs written about reflect that. My only criticism is that it does get a bit convoluted towards the end, and is tied up in a much too convenient bow.
