The Vanishing Deep was ok. I enjoyed the reef based and underwater, futuristic life in the Equinox, was intrigued by the concept of reviving those who have drowned for 24 hours in Palindromena, and the travelling between places. The dramatic time countdown throughout the book also motivated me to keep going. However, while I was hyped up by the setting and premise, I was underwhelmed by the ending and would have preferred something different. The pacing between the first and second half of the book also felt off for me.

I would recommend this book to fans of dystopians, sibling stories, and ocean settings. It’s a really unique world and plot. This book explores grief and how people deal with loss, and what people do to try to avoid their grief.
