A most impressive nonfiction narrative! I loved the author's mix of personal accounts, historical recaps, and photographs and other artifacts. I knew little about the German occupation of Denmark during WWII and even less about the resistance efforts of these youths. I hope that many of my students will read this novel and realize age does not determine the impact one can have on the betterment of society.
Boy do I wish I had known Knud Pederson! What a firebrand! This novel is a great look at the emergence of the Danish Resistance which was amazingly brought about by high school kids! Very inspiring and an interesting history to learn about. Fans of WW2 will absolutely devour this one but I think it has so much intrigue and mystery that most students will enjoy it too.
Grades 7 and up due only to the complexity of the historical events. An eager 5th or 6th grader would do fine.

What a fantastic story. I'm so glad the author was able to write it before before Mr Pedersen's passing. Read it in one sitting, not only because it is geared toward youth and classified as 'juvenile' but because the story was such a compelling one. I've read more than my fair share of books on WWII and had never heard of these boys. I'd like to think I could be as brave as they were. I hope I never have to find out.
I LOVE hearing new stories from WWII that haven't been told before. I am always very grateful that they were discovered (before it is too late) and shared. This book is about teenage boys who were very frustrated and upset with their Danish leaders for not resisting the Nazi invasion of their country so they decided to act against the Nazis on their own. These boys formed a club, The Churchill Club, and performed multiple acts of sabotage against the Nazis. They were eventually caught and imprisoned but their actions sparked Danish resistance movements during the war.
I liked how the author shares the background of how this book came about and I was especially happy he was able to interview one of the members of the club, Knud Pedersen. My only (very minor) complaint would be the text boxes that were a part of the story. They were in the middle of the chapter and broke up the narration. These boxes were full of good information and I was like a kid at the candy store. I couldn't resist reading them as they were introduced, though I wish I'd waited until the end of the chapter so as not to break up the flow.
This book was very informative and I admire the courage of these young men to stand up for what they believed in despite the danger. Wow! Great book.

I didn't know much about the resistance efforts in Denmark. This was really interesting to learn about.
This is a detailed account of one man's experience starting a resistance group against Germans as a teenager. I felt enough historical information was given to understand the story being told, but also not too overwhelming. The book gave me many things to think about, and I thought it was written well.
A quick read about a little known group of teens who fought back against the Nazis in Denmark. Some parts were slow, but overall very interesting.
This book was interesting but not to the extent that many other WWII books were for me.
The boys featured in this book were committing acts of defiance against the Nazis in Denmark for about 2 years before they were caught, captured, and jailed. I didn't have any background on Denmark's role in the war and how many citizens had a mutually beneficial arrangement with the Germans so they weren't necessarily motivated to put up a fight (their king surrendered 2 hours after Nazis declared war on them). It was shocking how little average citizens seemed to put up a fight and how these young boys had an overflow of anger and resentment towards their occupiers.
I kind of felt like the book lost a lost of steam after the boys were jailed and learning about life post jail for some of the boys was heartbreaking and depressing.
