This book was a challenge to get through because it's not plat driven. The book focuses much more on world building and character development. George Orwells novel was literary genius allowing you to care for Winston and his humanity and watch you see it stripped away. The ending of the novel was heavy and devastating just as it should be. The timelessness of this book makes it a good read for any decade. However, reading it after the second inauguration of 47 made this book a harrowing read. Winston story will haunt

Good concept, not the best for audio book. Hard to pay attention to and engage with most of it. Describes a lot of the world rather thank let the reader learn via soft world building.

I'm glad that I made it through 1984 by George Orwell, although it was a slog for me since I haven't read much dense/philosophical literature in a while. I wish I would have read it during a college english course and had a professor guiding me through it. This is not an exciting book for the most part, and I think that's what makes it frightening. The dullness and lack of interest in which the characters go through their lives with is a mirror of how a lot of us go through our lives--accepting how things are, not questioning, just getting by because that is what is safest. 1984 is a warning against censorship, surveillance, and totalitarianism. Just four stars from me because I wish there would have been a glimmer of hope somewhere in the novel. But I suppose that there is none is the point.
