Good concept, not the best for audio book. Hard to pay attention to and engage with most of it. Describes a lot of the world rather thank let the reader learn via soft world building.

I'm glad that I made it through 1984 by George Orwell, although it was a slog for me since I haven't read much dense/philosophical literature in a while. I wish I would have read it during a college english course and had a professor guiding me through it. This is not an exciting book for the most part, and I think that's what makes it frightening. The dullness and lack of interest in which the characters go through their lives with is a mirror of how a lot of us go through our lives--accepting how things are, not questioning, just getting by because that is what is safest. 1984 is a warning against censorship, surveillance, and totalitarianism. Just four stars from me because I wish there would have been a glimmer of hope somewhere in the novel. But I suppose that there is none is the point.

Such an intriguing book. The pacing is not the best but the novel is unsettling all the way through with nothing but the feeling of misery being present at all times. Absolutely incredible twists, traumatizng third act and an extremely haunting and thought-provoking ending that will leave you staring at the wall for 30 minutes after finishing the story. Wild that this could be our reality one day. Overall, an amazing but depressing read. Probably will reread it some time in the future.
