After reading Ready Player One, I was eager to dive into another book about virtual reality gaming (a genre I know now is called literary role-playing game, or LitRPG). This book did not disappoint! I was quickly drawn in by the characters - their banter and conversations gave interesting insight into both the characters themselves, as well as their relationships with each other. I love the friendships and camaraderie in this book.
Even though I am not a gamer myself, I found the gameplay descriptions exciting and engaging, and they kept me turning pages (digitally) to find out how each battle played out. Those who are gamers should enjoy that aspect even more than me.
The pacing was spot on, divided between the real world and the virtual game, with enticing cliffhangers at the end of each chapter that kept me reading.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and hope there will be more! I've also read the author's other books, and unreservedly recommend them as well!
NOTE: I received an Advance Review Copy in e-book format.
