Cocky Contender was an okay book. In it, you will meet the ex-MMA fighter Marco and Mila. They both work together, he owns the gym that she is now currently working in. Now they were kind of cute together with all their teasing throughout the book.
Yet, I was kind of bored with everything that was happening. I mean, yeah, they got a second chance at love and he was pretty perceptive about what was going on with Mila. We all know that she had secrets and I feel like things were just okay after Marco found out everything. There was no groveling or anything.. they just got back together.
Other than that, it was okayish book with a cute ending.

Marco and Mila were awesome!
Love, at first sight, has never been one of my favourite tropes but JM made it work.
Poor broken Mila knows her life won't be sunshine and roses. But, Marco with his beautiful soul and relentless attitude finally gets her to open herself to the possibility.
Their chemistry was immediate and their banter was fun.
Throw in some drama, deception and a surprising twist at the end and it made for a very enjoyable read.

Marco is a great male character: he’s protective without being overbearing. He’s funny and flirtatious without being cheesy. He’s caring and loves his family.
Mila is escaping a scary situation and has a lot of secrets but she’s able to put it all aside and love Marco fully.
Aside from the scorching hot love story with elements of angst and suspense there’s a nice story of family and friends who support you.

Another new author to me and I look forward to reading more by JM Kelley! Once I started I just couldn't put down!
I fell in love with Marco and Mila. They were just perfect for each other, and I enjoyed reading about them and watching their relationship develop. Their chemistry was fantastic and the twists in this book had me eagerly reading on!

Just when he thinks he will forever love Soraya, in walks Mila and Marco's world gets tilted on its axis. This is a heartwarming story of a strong, flirty, overly protective alpha and a vulnerable woman trying to stand back up on her two feet again.
As with most women who have been hurt by men, Mila is very cautious with Marco. Unfortunately Marco can't read the room and he lets nothing stop him from his goal, which is more than just Mila's smoking body, but he's in it for her heart.
This is a beautifully written story about 2 people who are perfect for each other. Its fun to watch them figure out what we saw from day one. J.M. Kelley does a good job with this story, giving us a little drama, love and a whole lot of steam.

Boxing has never been my thing, but reading about Marco and Mila and their connections to the... sport?...whatever it is, their foundations were deeply rooted in boxing. Mila's past broke my heart. No one should have to go through that. Watching how Marco and Mila's relationship strengthened and deepened to something more was heartwarming. The author is new to me, but the depth of the characters and their storyline was so well-written that the characters felt like old friends. That's on of my measures of a great book--how well I connect with them and how long they stay with me after I've read their story.

I had a bit of a debate about what rating to give this one. A part of me wanted to round my three-point-five-star rating up, but, in the end, I couldn’t quite bring myself to do so. I certainly enjoyed this one, devouring it in a single sitting, but I had been hoping for a little bit more.
The reasons I opted to round down instead of up are simple. The first is that I wanted more emotion from the backstory. It was powerful, but I feel it was glossed over in places. The characters were great together, I loved the way the backstory influenced their development, but I wanted a wee bit more emotion from it than what was given. The second is that the ending felt a bit rushed. It was clear where things were heading, and there was the potential for a lot to happen. As it was, things happened quickly and were over with in the blink of the eye.
Although it wasn’t quite everything I had hoped for, I was certainly hooked throughout. I loved watching things develop between the characters, I adored so many of their moments, but I just wish there had been a little bit more to the story than was given. Of course, I’m just super picky, and I’m sure many will be happy with what was given.
All in all, Cocky Contender was an addictive read I had to devour in a single sitting.
