This book was a reasonable fantasy title for kids, but it seemed to me that all of the pieces fit together a little too nicely. And the main character was really stupid to think that she could go in and steal her father's eyes back from the prince with her identity unveiled and then go home and be fine.

Love the idea for this book, but really not impressed with how it was executed.

Kind of slow. Disappointed.

My son and I read this together. He loved it and immediately was ready for the next book. I enjoyed it as well but it didn't strike me as a great read. I'm sure we'll finish off the series together.

I really enjoyed this. Fun, whimsical, and full of courage. Petra Kronos goes to the city in order to steal back her father's eyes.

Clever premise and I loved the character of the intelligent, bookish metal spider. But the book stumbled for me with point of view issues late in the story, and the need for characters to offer strange narration about the world of the book that didn't ring true.

I went to my kids' school bookfair and picked up this book. The cover intrigued me as did the description on the back. It was a quick and fun read. Another to put in my girls' room in hopes that they will pick it up. :-) I love the steampunk elements as well as the semi-historical context. I had to order the second book upon finishing this one. There is definitely more story for Rutkoski to tell.

New JUV trilogy by Marie Rutkoski (check out the 2nd and 3rd books...they are even better than the first). Reminded me of a younger Golden Compass. Judging by the fact I took this book into a restaurant, I'd recommend it to anyone interested in JUV fiction. And anyone looking for a good adventure story.
