“If God wanted me to give you up, he wouldn’t have made me who I am.”

I had to finish reading this because there was no way I was going to bed without doing so. The first five chapters of this book were insufferable and after having a terrible time with my first Rooney novel, Normal People I was worried Rooney was not it for me as a whole.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book and I totally get both the hype and the hatred for it; it's iconic. I will say this book has a lot of sex and religion mixed in and that was way too much for me at times. The formatting of the book with MULTIPLE PAGES having no breaks was killing me at times but I slowly got over it.

Straight vibes and extremely odd.

if I could describe this book in three words it would be "what the fuck".

I loved the title and complex characters. It took me about 60 pages to get into the story, and it was difficult for me to maintain motivation for reading. Alice’s being a celebrity novelist felt very meta. The emails between Alice and Eileen were my favorite parts, although the political and philosophical discourse lost me a bit. I found the dialogue challenging at times because it lacked the formatting that Normal People had. Overall, I thought that the book was meh, but there were some beautiful lines. I think if I re-read this in 10 years, I would like it a lot more and find the themes more relatable.

Eventhough there're less-to-none uses of dialogues symbols, it's still readable. The book itself has a beautiful meaning behind every conversations between the characters. The arguements will made me sitting at the edge of the chair.
