Characters felt dreary and detouring, and never really lifted off the page. The mystery felt weak and loosely executed. Perhaps the only poignant moment was in page 350: β€œFor the most part, you are dull and blundering. But occasionally, you can be remarkably bright creatures.”

The writing was kind of cringe at times. Some of the things the octopus said/thought were also silly. But I still liked that this was somewhat through the lens of an octopus.

First 3.5 I'm going to round up to 4! I had to read this book for my book club and I found it a lot easier to swallow than my greatest enemy (not really when Old Man and the Sea exists..) The Alchemist.

Overall I won't say much besides my growing hatred towards the English pronunciation of Jeanne. It's Joan and that's how the French intended it be pronounced. Not Jean. Never Jean. (Which for the record is also closer to John than it is

I really liked the writing style in this book. I think knowing the plot twist so early on kind of made me lose a little bit of interest during the last 100 or so pages. But still a very wholesome book and I thoroughly enjoyed this read!πŸ€“πŸ™
