Book 2 and book 3 desperately needed more editing. Several small grammar (such as missing punctuation) mistakes per book and overall they did a lot more telling than showing. Book 3 was a slog until about 60% of the way through, but the ending wrapped things up nicely.

The first 75 percent of this book felt like the second book of a trilogy: getting everyone in place. It makes me think that it could have been combined with book 2, and then flesh out book 3 some more.
I think I like this book more in theory than execution, although I did find the characters to be compelling.
Overall, I'd probably recommend it, but not enthusiastically.
