5 stars, well deserved. it's fast-moving yet thoughtful. totally hilarious and deeply emotional. it's the story of a man who has every important decision of his life made for him. and then he accidentally falls in love, which simultaneously destroys and uplifts him. just lovely.
Not the book I hoped it to be. It was well written, but there was something missing.

First of all, I gotta be honest that the sheer size/shape of this book made it a deterrent to read, but ultimately I'm glad I ignored that inconvenience to end up enjoying a pretty great book.
I'm not 100% on board with all the jumping around in time this book did, but overall, it was a sound plot with realistic character and character development. There were many choices made by characters that I didn't like, but ultimately, they were true to themselves and the plot.
I enjoyed this book. I didn't love it, but it was definitely one I'm glad I read as polygamy is a topic I'm very interested in.

This is one of the best books I've read in a long time! The characters are beautifully drawn and complex. This was a wonderful book that had me at alternating laughing out loud and wiping away tears while reading about (and rooting) for this dysfunctional family.
Big Love meets The Corrections meets John Irving. If you're a fan of any one of those three, you will almost certainly enjoy this book.
I wish I could give this book 3.5 stars. It was well written and very believable. There were times, for me personally, that I struggled with the main character Golden. He was way too passive for having 4 wives and it drove me batty!
Someone else commented on the cinematic nature of this book. I couldn't agree more. It begs to be projected. The setting was as much a part of the story as the characters. The author did a superb job painting a vivid picture in my mind.
