3.51 AVERAGE

I'm not huge into mafia books apparently. I was rooting for the two MC, but struggled with connecting to them. Their lives were flat, and pretty much solely focused on one thing, other than each other. The spicy scenes were good, but not enough to recommend the book as spicy.

Basic mafia book

The book was okay! It was exciting for a few chapters but it was pretty average. If you want an easy read this is good for you- more smut than story.

I was surprised because so many other books that Claire Contreras are so much better.

2.5 stars. I enjoyed this up until about the 80% mark - the plot kind of fell apart there and the conclusion seemed rushed. I enjoyed the crazy plot twists but felt that how Contreras concluded and wrapped up the story seemed way too convenient. The characters were fine in the beginning but as the story progressed I didn’t really feel like Loren and Cat had enough scenes together to where their relationship had chemistry. Loren was a typical alpha male and that was pretty much his entire personality. They didn’t spend enough time together or have enough convincing scenes for me to feel like either one was in love or willing to risk it all for the other.

I felt like this was a pretty good book. It was a good mob trope, but I wouldn't have minded more tension and conflict. I feel like the plot and spice was typical.

I can’t put into words how much I loved this book. I couldn’t stop listening. It enjoyed every moment of this book. A must read.

The ballet dancer and the scary mafia man....enough said.

I saw the twist coming from the first 5 chapters...

Also...i was confused for most of this book. So much and nothing happened. The story was sort of hard to follow.

This didn't feel very "mafia" and i got really annoyed with all the ballet talk. I'm pretty sure this was supposed to be about gangs and not the mob...which are very different things.

I will not be continuing the series.

Rating: 3/5

I have enjoyed a couple of other books by Claire Contreras so was interested to listen to this series.  The plot was engaging and well-paced, keeping my interest throughout. The spice level was present but not as intense as other books I have listened too.
The characters were interesting and well-developed, and I enjoyed the perfect balance of character development and an intriguing storyline.
I felt the ending a little rushed, but am interested to hear where this series goes. No cliffhanger.

2.5 stars

I've recently read some of Claire Contreras' backlog and really enjoyed them, but this was not like the others. Actually, I wasn't impressed.

Even though I'm not a huge fan of mafia books, I've read better. The explanations, plot, and characters were super convoluted at times. It was tough to understand who was aligned with who. For example, I thought that Lorenzo was working for the enemy, but he wasn't? I guess. I'm not sure.

And even the ballet and dance parts that were interspersed throughout made very little to no sense. It didn't really add to the plot, but actually watered down the mafia parts.

Also, I didn't like the romance. The whole reason why Lorenzo sought Catalina out was so awful and stupid.
SpoilerLorenzo wanted revenge on Catalina's ex-fiance because he was having an affair with Lorenzo's wife, but Lorenzo was the one who cheated on his wife in the first place.
The rationale behind Lorenzo's revenge pisses me off so much. It makes no sense.

Plus, what happened to the class Catalina had to take for her sister? Did the class end or did she drop out? I'm not sure.

It felt like this book was juggling waay too many subplots for a standalone and failed to keep them all in the air.

this was exactly like every single wattpad book i read in 6th grade and not even one of the good ones. this plot was so messy every time i thought it was gonna end another plot point started up and the story was just in general confusing to follow. there were also an absurd amount of typos or just linguistic things that made no sense
