Can’t stand Winnie. There were at least attempts at character sketching for her in the first book, but she serves literally no other purpose in this book except being a plaything until the very last page of the book where something maybe interesting happens. She had no actual thoughts or motivations beyond “please f*** me” and then the requisite “wow I must be f****** up to want this* thought. Her relationships are I guess just based on magic allure and sex because there’s literally nothing else to them.
What little plot there is in the book is predictable, even the “twist” at the end, and the writing is not good.
Did I need chapters narrated my Captain Hook? Absolutely not.
It’s annoying because there could be interesting world building elements and political intrigue between the different territories of the land, but literally none of it is actually fleshed out. Like the mythos of a magical land being tied to life and death shadows that must be wielded for balance is interesting, but not actually a main plot point beyond “he needs his shadow back.”
Anyways, listening to the audiobook during slow days at work because full cast narration is easier to keep track of so there’s that.

Type of read: Commuter Read.
What made me pick it up: I read 'The Never King' and was not a huge fan, but my book club has convinced me to give St. Crowe another chance with 'The Dark One.'
Overall rating: Nope. Just nope. I can't do it. I can't do another one of the books in this series. I feel like St. Crowe needed an editor, beta readers, and just a whole lot of help to make these books make sense. There's truly a great baseline story here, but it's so garbled and full of dick that there's no substance. Don't get me wrong, I love a good spicy story, but when it's 95% spice, 3% reliant on a childhood favorite tale, and 2% actual writing (that seems like the first draft of a creative writing paper), I just can't get behind it. The only reason I'm thankful to have spent time reading 'The Dark One' is because it was a super quick read and is helping me get one step closer to 100 books for the year.
Reader's Note: 'The Dark One' includes themes of sex, assault, kidnapping, light bondage, choking, injury - including injury detail, and death.

Peter pan for adults! This is book 2 in a series and it's action packed with a brutal cliff hanger ending. The bonding in this book was cute and there is a tiny bit more depth and character growth in this one than the first. It is still erotica though, so don't expect anything very deep or meaningful - It's more smut than plot. That being said, the storyline is stiill good and it is an interesting 18+ take on Peter Pan.

Pretty much rinse and repeat of the first book. The book is mostly sex right up until the end when everything pops off. Vane gives in so Winnie has her whole harem now. I had to take a little off the rating because of Cherry here. Completely reducing her to jealousy over Winnie is such a boring take. I’m still going to read the next one though since they’re such quick reads and I want to catch up on my reading goal for the year.
