I had come across David Goggins through years of internet scrolling. People seemed to mention him, and I vaguely knew about some of his extreme athleticism and absurd mentality, but never paid close attention. After watching a video of an guy nonsensically injure himself by running with little training, I thought I would try listening to his book to see what he was really preaching. He indeed has an incredible life story that is difficult not to be inspired by. His military journey and stories are a fascinating look into a different world. He definitely unlocked a warrior mentality that I identify as mostly insane yet completely rational. It helps him fight through the hardest physical challenges that can be imagined. His work ethic and dedication over decades are not seen with the clickbait, sound bites online but he absolutely has gained credibility in my eyes.

This book took me a year to finish šŸ˜– It can be inspiring, sure… but Goggins pushes himself past what is healthy and has a ā€œyou suck if you’re not pushingā€ mentality that leaves it feeling hollow, masochistic, and emotionless. I think there are better ways to motivate, and you do need to listen to your body.

Was not for me. Did not like it.

Agreed with the importance of creating a tough mentality.

I know a lot of people (mostly men, well, actually all of them are men) that are taking this book in like a gospel. I’m glad Goggins is finding a way to cope with his childhood trauma but geezum fuck the ARROGANCE. I couldn’t get past it. One stupid decision after another. I hope someday he finds contentment in just being instead of feeling like he constantly has to prove himself.
