Oof. So I will say that I found this book motivating and I think that it is amazing what the author has overcome. However, the misogyny and ableism was just too much, even though it occurred in passing moments. I have mixed feelings about the message... IMO, yes, you can do hard things and should also make an effort to put yourself outside your comfort zone but also it is okay if you don’t or if you fail.
Listen to the audiobook. Any time I want to feel sorry for myself or make excuses, I will remember just how good I’ve had it.
what an insane dude! Sometimes it was too much and I felt like he was legit torturing himself and not taking the time to be smart about what he was putting his body through. But wow.. you have to respect him. He really does prove how you can overcome your body and mind through sheer willpower. He went through so much and came out on the other side stronger for it. It’s inspiring and I love the anti pity party, hardass approach. I enjoyed the play between him and his ghost writer on the audio book. Would recommend!
This isn’t a book that you should read as a “how-to”, and I don’t think anyone should aspire to live exactly as Goggins lives. However, he’s one tough MF and inspiring as hell. It’s good to learn from people like him.
I am very happy I read this book as he is very clearly an accomplished athlete. I was disappointed by the derogatory language towards women, but it did make me further respect women in the military surrounded by that language and for that dose of reality I am grateful. Also he is right about social media being a waste of time .🤪
