Informative book about anti vaccine movement and it’s origins. Really interesting, but authors points became a little redundant in the multitude of examples. While this showed an abundance of evidence to support vaccines, it made the reading mundane at times.
What I liked most about this book was that it was easy to read. Science writing is unfortunately known for being too dense or boring for someone without sufficient background knowledge or interest to read and understand. Paul Offit did a great job of making an important topic in science more approachable to a wider audience.
This was an informative and terrifying journey that offered a bit of hope as a final thought. Although it was backed by solid research and examples of real situations, it felt like many of the points were repeated throughout the book. Once I reached the end, I was a little tired of hearing the same things again and again (although that might be the nature of the beast when discussing this topic). Despite the controversial nature of this discussion, Paul Offit manages to remain respectful with a neutral tone while relaying facts. He created a convincing argument that I wish could be read by more, however I suspect those that need to read this book the most will avoid it.
Amazing and troubling. It was the most thorough and well-researched discussion of the anti-vaccine movement I've seen. The author does a fantastic job of showing the history of vaccine opposition starting with smallpox and leading all the way to today. His concluding discussion of possible scenarios that will lead back to high levels of immunization was accurate, but the reality of the entire story is devastatingly sad. I managed to not break down crying until the end.

This book was quite interesting. It was intriguing to read the history of vaccines. The book really helps you see how we have come to where we are today. I highly recommend this one.
This was a very well-written and compelling point-by-point response to the anti-vaccine movement. I particularly appreciated his ability to use storytelling -- as well as statistics and science -- to the demonstrate the importance of widespread vaccination.
Un libro muy interesante sobre la historia de un movimiento que me intriga. Para quienes quieran averiguar más sobre los origenes y causas de los frente anti-vacuna, completamente recomendado. Muy bien escrito, información clara y un análisis exhaustivo.
This book was VERY well-done. I just wish we could have it read out loud to prospective parents persuaded by the credentials of Playboy bunnies who frighten them away from vaccines. This book clearly lays out where the scaremongers are wrong, WHY they are wrong, and why it matters to all of us. This has been an issue becoming increasingly worrying to me recently, since every year, as more and more parents refuse to vaccinate, the yearly pertussis outbreaks in my area get worse and worse. And my asthmatic son may some day pay the price for someone else's parenting choice. Scary. The science is clear, the issue is black and white, and it's high time someone like Dr. Offut had the courage to say so.
