A bittersweet tale of two lovers kept apart by the silly conventions of their time -- made all the more tragic by the fact that they missed a New Era, in which it would've been perfectly acceptable for them to be together, by two small decades.

If this book were written today, it would be a tweet that reads: "Screw decorum! Go be with the one you love! #peoplewhowrite #speakyourmind #TeamOlenska"

Un romanzo ambientato nella New York del 1800.
Il protagonista, un giovane avvocato, Newland Archer è fidanzata con una ragazza borghese May.
Una sera come le altre, nel palco della signora Mingott,vi è l’entrata di un nuovo personaggio Ellen, una donna che proviene dall’Europa e anche vecchia amica del protagonista.
Con l’entrata di Ellen, Newland anticipa le nozze e da lì iniziano un susseguirsi di eventi.
Un libro stupendo che consiglio di leggere.
