I'm going to have to give this a 3.5 stars.

As a audio performance i loved it, lots of the dialogue was great though there were times it felt a little pushed to add on time. Though honestly i thought it would be a audio book, rather than a vocal performance. As far as the story goes, i thought it was great for the most parts though i would have prefered it if Ash had been more of a footnote rather than the full on villian. He killed far more characters than the aliens and it just didn't add up to the character shown in alien, but rather seemed like an attempt to introduce a cleaver way to up the body count without it being a simple alien gore fest.

There were some other small details that didn't make sense, like Ripley's indepth knowledge of the aliens when she had only seen it a few times in the first movie and hadn't wittnesed it kill anyone (other than kane through birth). Also the crews knowledge seemed a little to advance for what little they had seen on the computer monitors.
Yet these were only minor hindrances and except for the lacking of narative to describe what was going on, this was a very enjoyable read. Would recomend it to any alien fans.

It was alright. Workable prose. Hamstrung by the need to shoehorn Ripley into the story and clean up any loose plot threads before the events of Aliens. Really just a mashup of Alien and Aliens, very little originality or excitement.

Subtracted a star due to the horrible and boring visions Ripley constantly suffered throughout the book.

Disregarding the blatant anachronisms (this is supposed to be two centuries in the future, and they're still using keyboards for their computers, and switches and dials for their ship controls), and the somewhat slow start, the story was fairly interesting, although somewhat predictable. The scenes down on the planet were cool and reminiscent of the Aliens movie, so it certainly picked up there. Overall, if you're an Aliens fan, probably worth the time taken to fill in the gaps - 3.5 stars.

I didn't know what to expect from this as a free Audiobook but have to say it impressed me with a full cast of voice actors as well as sound effects. I then was worried when I started to find out that it took place between Alien and Aliens and this was cannon but it did seem to address any issues people think would arise, I wouldn't mind reading the other books in the trilogy down the line.

Fun quick read--nothing really new or revealing in this--but a simple fun read.

Honestly, this story does "evil android" better than Prometheus and Alien Covenant managed. It was a fun and energetic story that cleverly takes place between the first two movies, while Ripley was supposedly in cryosleep. Audible originals do have an odd preference to turn dialogue into exposition instead of using a traditional third person narrator like Graphic Audio, but it still works great and is worth the distinction of not being just a standard audiobook. I even liked this more than the Gibson script for Alien 3.

This is everything you'd want from an Alien book: a dark, desperate struggle for survival with just enough hope to keep you pushing on with the characters. Breathe before you read, because the book won't give you much time for it. It's definitely a must read for Alien fans, and an entertaining read for everyone else.
