This book is LONG, arguably 100 pages too long. But it’s also impressive, though not exactly fun to read.

If you’re okay with being frustrated (because the author wants you to be) and wading through 550 pages of a stress dream, while also getting to try to puzzle piece together the plot, and enjoying stellar Ishiguro prose, then give it a go. The book is absurd, roundabout, agonizing and invigorating in turn, and definitely, definitely not a beach read.

Kazuo is still my man. If you decide to read it, best of luck, and please text me your thoughts / rants. (:
challenging funny lighthearted mysterious medium-paced

One of the strangest novels I’ve ever read. Not hard to read, sustained by humour and constant novelty.

DID NOT FINISH

Read 200 pages. Even for Ishiguro, this was unmoored.

This isn’t a novel you read for the plot. It’s a novel you sink into—like being caught in an anxiety attack rendered in prose.

I was excited to find a lesser known Ishiguro...and then I found out why it's lesser-known. This was a snoozefest, and after looking up the rest of the plot, it doesn't get better.
