3.5 A fun and sometimes steamy romance. I didn't think I was going to like this. I was really turned off by some of the dialogue in the beginning. I didn't like the way the characters were describing others. It made me want to stop reading but I made myself keep going. The book started to pick up for me around 35-40% in. I sped through it from there and enjoyed it. I loved Rashida and her determination to help her grandmother. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for a digital arc in exchange for an honest review. Man, I was really liking this book until it got to the spice. The way that the characters talk to each other just really threw me off. I loved the entire granny squad though, and I was rooting for them the whole time. I  liked the majority of this book, but then there were just places that I couldn’t stand. This book really threw me for an emotional loop, because I’m not sure if I loved it or hate it. I will say it was really funny, and I felt like the characters truly connected, but again they were just some parts of the book that I couldn’t stand and we’re super cringey.

I loved the extended family and community characters. I think gentrification is an important topic and commentary in this story. The old lady squad, I just rooted for them to stay in their homes the whole time and the community to benefit. Such fun antics. The romance itself was okay, nothing super moving for me, but fun and believable.

The Hookup Filemma is actually a very ute book. I am surprise to see low rating for this book.
The hero is super nice guy. I thought the story can be very boring. But turns out to be very nice.

Or maybe I need a vanila romance to balance my read. The whole plot is simple and yet sweet. I enjoy it very much. Suitable for lazy humid weekend.

This book is about Rashida and Elliot. The met at a bar, hooked up then found themselves on separate sides of an important issue. I liked that it was a mixed race romance not many books I’ve read make it clear what race people are to leave it up to the reader. I would have liked more in depth spice scenes because they give you bits and pieces it is neither fade to black nor explicit.

This is basically an early 2000s romcom executed perfectly.

MY THOUGHTS:

Rashida and ElliotQuinn met at the bar one night and had an instant connection between. Who would have thought they were ‘enemies’ on opposite sides on a sensitive issue? Rashida is a food critic who is trying to save her childhood neighborhood from the big business bad wolf that is Quinn enterprises. Needless to say that this leaves Rashida and Elliot’s huge attraction in danger.

This was a cute ‘lovers-to-enemies-to-lovers’. A fast-paced story with many funny scenes. The story was light and very easy to read.

WHAT I LIKED:

- Rashida’s relationship with her grandma is amazing and reminded me so much about my own relationship with my grandma, so it hit a sensitive spot in my heart

- The mean pranks the old lady and her friend did on poor Elliot were amazing! Who doesn’t love a nice old lady that turns out to be sassier than we had expected?

- The plot was light and amusing. I really enjoyed the story in general.

WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE:

- The author focused too much on their sexual tension and less on their romantic feelings towards one another.

CONCLUSION:

For fans of the ‘enemies to lovers’ trope that need a light and funny read I recommend this book.
