Really enjoying reading this series, Demelza was a bit slower paced than Ross Poldark, but I flew through nevertheless. The ending of this book was very emotional.

Winston Grahami romaan "Demelza" on suurepärane järg sarja avateosele "Ross Poldark", mida lugesin suve alguses.

Ajaloolise ilukirjanduse lugejatele soovitan! Järgmist osa veel ilmunud pole, seega nüüd on paras aeg sarja vaadata ning Cornwalli ilu nautida.

After a fizzle of a story for #1, I had hoped that Graham would deliver on some promising prospects for characters in the second installment and was quite disappointed. For a 500 page book, he spent far too much time droning on about the mining business. The interesting parts were left wanting between chunks of business worries and talks.

Being historical fiction, set in Cornwall, we don't even need much world building (which isn't given) so there isn't a huge justification for me for the amount of time it took the story to move from one scene to another.

I can count on one hand the plot points that he orchestrated and unfortunately they weren't enough for me to continue on with the series.

If you invest in the Poldark books or the tv series featured on PBS's Masterpiece, you will fall in love with Demelza and her lovely spirit. She is the perfect fit for Ross.

I didn't like this one as much as #1 but Ross and Demelza's intimacy is beautifully written. It saturates the entire book, especially their scenes together, and I haven't ever read a more realistic depiction of a marriage.

It is very similar to the show, and the show uses quite a few verbatim lines from it but I missed the "Pray to God I do not lose the love of my life" scene that the book doesn't have.

CONTENT: Really clean book - only a few d**ns, some mild kissing scenes, and a couple vague references about couples having sex.

Demelza has always been the character that draws me to the series, and the fact that this book is not only named for her, but has so much of her growth, makes it such an enjoyable read for me.

Once again, I find the show is being very closely adapted, but as with most adaptations, we are getting a lot more of the every day details in the original work. I love Verity so much and enjoy reading more about her in this book and more details about her relationship with Captain Blamey. Their first meal together on the eve of their wedding was so sweet.

I also feel like the fevered delusions that Demelza goes through during her sickness were much harder to read than to watch. It was very detailed and horrible and breaks your heart that much more to have her come through it, only to face unimaginable loss.

The pacing in this book picked up and left us with a lot of new story lines to look forward to in the next installment. I can’t wait to continue!
