A cute romance novel that is a bit refreshing in that it doesn’t quite fit some of the cookie cutter tropes typical of the genre. I appreciated the focus on family and Florence growing with them and through their loss. The twist at the end was very obvious right from the get go for me, but I’m still a sucker for this kind of story, as well as for all the jokes and puns and play on words with all things death.

So, this book made me ugly cry.
And not regarding the romance but more the family dynamic and taking the time to remember those who have passed- by doing what they loved when they lived.

I, like the author, struggle with the idea of death and I thought she captured the grief of losing a family member the way I would want to capture it. Humour, dancing and passive aggressiveness when you can't handle it the way you need to.

Do I think of this as a romance novel? No. Well, not in the way I view romance. I liked the friendship between Florence and Ben and I loved they had the happy ending they (and we) deserved **serious Just Like Heaven vibes**
But the romance was about 5% of the story. They connect and a romance blossoms but the romance was right at the end - it was a story focussing more on her journey being a ghost writer, grieving for time lost, self doubt and figuring out why Ben was haunting her (whilst doing nothing about it because she loved him being around). The romance aspect sweetened the deal and danced around the question constantly lingering: is love dead?
For Flo it was in almost every sense of the word.

I have to say, overall, this could be one of my favourite reads of the year. It made me feel through out the entire book but those tears were a combination of sadness, love and happiness. I love a good roller-coaster of emotion but I liked with every low their was a high or humour to take the sting out of the knife plunging into my heart constantly.

Spice rating: flour with a faint, faint hint of paprika

Intriguing concept - was interested to see how the HEA would happen and enjoyed Poston's execution of it. Florence narrating how she navigated her grief read dryly sometimes. Some dialogue tags (e.g., "added," "admitted," "replied") felt overused. In general, liked this one more than T7YS.
Found a few potential typos.
