Unlikeable and under-developed main characters, a supporting cast that was either cartoonishly cliche or seemed to serve no purpose, and entire portions of the book where nothing happened except for the MC bring a jerk. Not my jam.

I wanna start this review with a PSA to all women that you deserve more and to not settle for this.

Throughout this book, Dekker serves as a verbal punching bag for whenever Hunter has his bitchfits. When he's angry (which is always) he either starts a physical fight or a verbal fight with Dekker. This is especially frustrating because during or after these tantrums, he recognizes that he's probably in the wrong and will regret this later but still continues with his destructive behavior. This man has very low emotional intelligence to the point where Dekker, when trying to make him remember the joy of the sport he's forgotten, can't even say that he's burnt out. She knows a tantrum is imminent if she does, and that's exactly what happened when she did. Hunter later realized that she was right, but does he apologize? Hahahahaha. Apologizing for calling her emotionless, annoying and a whore for saying he's burnt out doesn't even come to mind. But our female protagonist Dekker constantly has to say she's sorry.

One of the early scenes in this book has them in the same elevator going up to their respective rooms. They're flirting, mostly him, when he begins to lean over her and kiss her. Tbf she also does some things. Then when she asks if they'll continue he leaves her saying something about "now you know how I feel" referring to her ending their fu*k buddy relationship. She later has to apologize for her behavior EVEN THOUGH HE'S THE ONE THAT INITIATED IT. He did it to be petty and her response is "he's right, I shouldn't have responded".

Dekker seems very emotionally intelligent though multiple characters, even herself, refer to her in terms relating to a lack of emotions. It is specifically because of this she sees behind this facade Hunter portrays and why most of his tantrums occurs. As he starts a fight to get out of conversations about his emotions. I'm not saying that she's fair in her continuous asking about problems he's not comfortable with sharing. I am however saying that instead of setting a boundary he lashes out like a little bitch, and needing her to apologize for it. It gets exhausting.

Dekker is a strong independent woman until she isn't. Hunter is a bitch until death. When she can't take it anymore, she's told by her sister that he's laching out because he cares.... And to give him another chance. Her Internal monologue is basically "the smile he gave me before he remembered he hated me was so sweet" or "the way he let down his guard just a little, just for me" not mentioning the verbal lashing succeeding it. I can't say this strongly enough, I don't see what she sees in him. The only redeeming quality about this book I can thing of is if you ever had a friend that dated an asshole that she refused to break up with, you could give her this book so she could feel what you did as a sideline spectator who's opinions won't change the shit show you know is about to take place and whose warnings come on deaf ears.

I'm giving this 2 stars only because I've read worse and I don't want to include it in that category simply because it would take away from how godawful that shit was. But if you're reading this and decide to give the book a 1 star I certainly wouldn't blame you.

Edit: this was written when I was about 90% through the book and as you can see this book has a new score. All I can say is that it pissed me off enough to deserve it.

To the Norwegians reading this I have but one comment: "ka farsken, ka fan og ka i helvette" e spørsmålene én konstant stille sæ i bakhodet når du lese denne boka.
