I probably wasn't the only one thinking of Fast & Furious while reading this book, right? Not complaining, really, I love the vibe.

Mina is a single mom to an adorable girl, Cleo.
Unfortunately Mina doesn't hold many happy memories from her life, if any. She and her brother were raised amongst criminals and danger, all thanks to their father.
After one terrible occurrance which put her daughter's life in danger, Mina forced her brother, Leon, to leave Houston and never come back. Fast forward five years and her brother is back in her life, forcing Mina to leave her life and move to St. Louis so he can protect her and his niece. To say Mina is mad is an understatement, but she also knows that her brother left her no choice and all that's left to do is what her brother tells her.
Dontell is Mina's brother's best friend. Sadly, he's also the man Mina felt instant attraction to when they met three years ago. But he's off-limits. Not only because he's Leon's best friend, but also because Mina's focus is her daughter and to make sure she stays safe. How hard can it be to keep their distance with each other?
I enjoyed meeting all the characters in this book. You can definitely feel how strong and united they are, a true sense of "family". They support each other and they are the definition of "friends are the family you choose".
Mina has major trust issues. She carries a lot of baggage and she's always on guard. She doesn't let anyone in easily; the relationship with her brother is damaged and it feels like no matter how much Leon tries to rebuild the connection, it just never works out.
I really liked Dontell. Despite him being in a lot of pain himself, I enjoyed getting to know the real him. He's funny when he needs to be, he's genuine and someone you can always rely on.
Aaaaand the things this man says? And does? Yeah, I really, relly like him. 👀😏🔥
Given the ending, I'll just say I cannot wait for the next book in the series! And I cannot wait to meet other characters.
Thank you so much Brittany Ann for the ARC of this book! 💗

There are so many errors in this book it's distracting. I really like the characters and the story though so I'll continue the series for sure. Can't wait to see how it all plays out.

In the aftermath of her daughter's kidnapping, Mina is fed up. She's fed up with the danger her brother Leon's life of street racing has brought her. He vows to leave them alone but one day he shows up for their protection. In tow is Dontell, his best friend and right hand man who has been in love with Mina since the first time he saw her. Under their protection Mina is forced to face her past while also learning to have hope for her future.
When I saw Brittany’s instagram page promoting Clutch & Shift I was hooked. So I knew I needed to read Breakneck first. I truthfully had no idea what to expect with this book. I certainly didn’t expect a whole slew of her other characters to be included in this book. Mina says it all for us when she says "Goodness, how big was this group? How many friends did my brother have?" So if Brittany is a new to you author (like she is for me) I would read her other books and then come to this one.
Regardless of that I loved the story line and world building. I loved Mina and Dontell together so much. That garage scene!! And Mina is actually a total bada$$, any woman who can unalive someone with keys can be my friend! I love how although Mina and Dontell get their HEA, the story line is still unresolved which Is continued on in Clutch & Shift. It’s such a wonderful way to connect the series together.
Thank you @authorbrittanyann_ for allowing me to read and review this book! All thoughts and opinions are my own!

Breakneck is a Spicy Fast & the Furious style Street Racing romance. Mina & her daughter Cleo are dragged back into this underworld by Mina’s Brother, Leon, for protection. A world Mina was desperate to put behind her now that she is a mother. For good reason too, which we find out early on in the book. But there is more to the story.
Leons best friend, Dontell, has loved Mina since he laid eyes on her. With her in his home, under his protection, temptation is going to be hard to resist.
This is the first book in the burnout series and I am very excited for more from this world. This was fast paced & kept me hooked. Donnie & his filthy mouth. His love for Mina & her daughter. Her sass. The family vibe. The danger. I loved it all.
I especially loved Brittany’s dedication too - “To the moms who've lost themselves deep in motherhood. It's okay. Take your time digging yourself out, you'll learn to love yourself again. I promise.” I felt this. And Minas character was amazing. Her & her daughter were everything the other needed but Donnie opened her eyes, gave her opportunities and her growth was beautiful.

I was hoping for so much more to this book. It honestly felt way too long with a lot of unnecessary back and forth that was repetitive. There was also a lot of grammatical and spelling errors in the book as well. It was also very instalovey which isn’t my favorite trope so that was just a me thing because for this one it didn’t make sense how quick the two fell for one another because they never had a conversation together. The concept is a really cool idea but it was hard when there were some cringy parts in here that made it difficult to keep going. It could have been just this book that was like that and could get better I’ll just have to see.
Brittany Ann does it again. The universe this author has created is spectacular in it’s relationships and meeting points. Starting with the Batter Up Series then the Langston Brothers duet Brittany Ann finally brings us home to St. Louis.
Maybe it’s the Missourian in me but this felt like home. The places mentioned were familiar and the characters were relatable. You’ll fall in love with each male character Brittany creates and wonder how you could ever choose a main one to focus on.
I highly recommend all of this author’s books. Dive into this universe. You will not regret it.
