This story tried to cover too much ground in its limited pages, so it didn't end up doing anything very well. There's a stolen talisman, but the thief is tracked down near-instantly and surrenders it immediately when he realizes it really does have powers; there's the malevolent spirit haunting the talisman, but it's near-instantly handled with Whyborne's firestarting trick; and then they go home for a sex scene. The story is told from Griffin's perspective and while it's nice to see what attracts him to Whyborne after only hearing Whyborne's perspective in [b:Widdershins|16128152|Widdershins (Whyborne & Griffin, #1)|Jordan L. Hawk|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1352121658l/16128152._SY75_.jpg|21952704], it got too over-the-top with Griffin being sure Whyborne is going to leave him at any moment. The story could have been fun if the talisman plot had more substance to it but overall this felt skippable and I probably should have just gone straight from book 1 to book 2 in the series.

This fun and gothic little tale whipped me out of my reading funk and excited to continue with this series.

Nice little short story. Whybourne and Griffin are so cute, both nuts about each other but so very insecure. They are both waiting to fuck up and for the other to leave. Completely endearing.

This short story is also in the first audiobook, and it's as sweet and lovely as a story with missing talismans and impending doom can be.

Griffin wants to give Whyborn a fabulous Valentin's Day, but a client shows up and things get a little messy.

The narration was better. Like much better! And the reason might be that the audio was released around the same time that the audio of book 4... So I'm a bit scared for the narration of book 2 😅

Story-wise, it was way too short for me to rate it. With the narration speed at x2,5, the audio was under 30min.
What we learnt though is that both the mc are kind of insecure in their relationship, thinking the other could do much better.

A quick read in the POV of Griffin. When on Valentine's Day, Griffin is hired to recover property, he takes Whyborne along upsetting all his plans for a romantic evening. Instead they are again in the strange.

Here we get Griffin's POV and his insecurities about his relationship with Whyborne. We don't get to see this in the main books as he always seems so in control as he hides it well.

I love that this story is from Griffin's POV, it is fascinating to see how he sees himself and what he has to offer, and how different that is from how Ival sees him.
