While the story sounded really interesting, the execution didn't hold up. The main character was exhausting (and not in an interesting way), many of the supporting characters were caricatures, and the imagery was largely unrealized potential. I liked the unique touches, like the insect treehouse & the girls' transformation, and wanted more of that. If you're hoping for a spooky read for October, this isn't it, although it's engaging enough to finish and could work as a commuter or beach read.

I couldn't put this book down. Definitely worth reading.

I don't know exactly what I thought I was getting into when I started this book, but I'm not mad at it. It definitely is more of a thought provoking read as opposed to outright horror, and the real horror is honestly the town. Small towns, man, they are scary. I'm still mulling over the ending and how everything played out, but my only complaint would be that the main character does not act like a woman in her 40's during those parts. But there are potential reasons for that.

I loved this. Emotional as well as suspenseful. For a nice change got to follow a heart warming friendship rather than a cliche romantic relationship. Loved the ending very much.

A very poignant story, beautifully written. I loved the main character, Phoebe, unerringly human complete with flaws and regrets, but also courageous and righteous. A great character to root for. I also especially love the depiction of Denton Street in 1980. I've never been to Ohio, but it all felt so real, the way Kiste describes the scenic street and the interaction between the neighbours. The relationships between all of the characters are brilliantly written, and very touching. A very engaging and engrossing read.

An achingly beautiful book, left me thinking about it for days after finishing and I imagine I will always be pondering it over. So much truth in this fiction.
