I love Kayla and this book makes me love her more

I'm not a poetry person but I wanted to check this out because I suspected I'd like it. I loved it so much I'm going to try and get a physical copy.

Amazing!!!

I've watched Khae on tiktok and she is so articulate and knowledgeable about what she thinks without coming off as unwelcoming. When I found out she was making a poetry book, I couldn't wait to buy it. After reading it...I mean was there anything to be surprised about.

Her views one things relating to gender roles, society, life, and religion is poignant. Simple sound bites where it doesn't outright overwhelms you but layered to where the more you think, the more comes to mind. My favorite pieces were: "Women's History Month", "Myth", "Fiance Fido", "Soul on Ice", "A Query" (the final one).

Short but mighty book of poems. I loved the overall message of the book. I interpreted it as being reflective of your life as a black woman and knowing that you have the power to create the life you want but it won’t come without a fight. The queries were my favorite. I found myself rereading them just to make sure I was fully grasping the message. However, I did not like when the opening line was the same as the closing line. I feel like the message would be better delivered and more profound with just the last line. But I do understand the need for repetition. In the end, I was wishing there were more pages to bury myself in. But I left feeling way more inspired and overall grateful to have read this.
