I liked this book a lot. Very gritty, very engaging it blends fantasy, horror, and crime incredibly well. The personality was subtle and nuanced and the plot was good as well. Loved the world building. There were a couple of points that new story elements kind of blindsided me but it didn’t take me long to catch up. A very good use of the first person writing style. I’ll definitely be checking out more titles from this series.

Kate Daniels is one of the strongest characters I have ever met and I love her sense of humor!!
I truly enjoyed this book! I liked the main character Kate. She was very knowledgeable about magic and shapeshifter customs. She also said a lot of funny things and I laughed a lot throughout the book. The banter between characters and the jokes were really funny! So many things happened that took me by surprise. I never saw them coming.
My only complaint is that some scenes in the book are very gruesome and dark. When they mention dead bodies, the authors do such a good job of writing that you can imagine it so well. The descriptions are disgusting and vivid. Make sure to eat before you read those scenes because they could make you lose your appetite.
I'm so excited to read the next book! Also, there's a handy guide at the back of the book describing some of the characters and the different groups like the People, the Guild, and others.
