Teetering between 3 and 4 stars. I like Kate and her sass as well as the chemistry between her and Curran. But the chapters are super long, which is one of my biggest peeves (it might not bother others). Honestly this was a nice set up for the beginning of a series.

Did this one as an audiobook. Reader is ok.

I have read other books by these authors that i enjoyed so i gave this one a try.

For me, it was all right. A solid main character that has plenty of room to grow. A very intriguing secondary character that is funny and engaging.

the story itself was good. lots of action. I will work my way around to book two after i get a few more off the pile.

Urban fantasy and mystery make for a great start to a series. Kate Daniels is a tough, powerful woman who has faced difficulties for a long time. Especially now, with her guardian murdered, she will do whatever it takes to uncover what he was involved in and who killed him. But as she ventures into the investigation, she becomes entangled in the magical community of Atlanta, which I know will only bring her more problems. I enjoyed her sass and her relationships with the minor characters. You could see the chemistry she had with everyone, which had nothing to do with romance—just great writing. Solving the mystery of what happened to her guardian led her to even more questions and bigger problems ahead. I love it when authors can tie everything together like that.
