DID NOT FINISH: 20%

Don’t think this is for me - bit too 2000s and wasn’t gripped. May pick it up again sometime though so will leave it on my kindle.

This reminds me a lot of early Supernatural seasons, both in its bonkers cosmology and its gratuitous sexualization of violence against women. I would’ve said “it’s fine for a mass market paperback,” given it three stars and moved on with my life, but I have a policy against doing that when an author casually uses racial slurs. I think if all you want is a quick n dirty airport read, there’s a lot of other options that don’t include exposition that sounds like it was written by your racist grandma.

I really loved this series. I've recommended it to all my friends since. This is great Adult/Late Teen Science Fiction/Fantasy!
medium-paced

📖 Bookish Thoughts
I’ve been wanting to read this series for such a long time and I’m so glad I finally did! This book gave me nostalgia for those paranormal vibes from the late 2000s to early 2010s. They really don’t make paranormal books like this anymore 😩

As a big Anita Blake fan, this gave me similar energy. Kate Daniels is such a snarky FMC who gives as good as she gets. The worldbuilding was a little confusing at first, but once it clicked, I was hooked. I’m excited to dive into the rest of the series!

🖤 What to Expect
• Urban fantasy
• Mercenary FMC
• Murder investigation
• Shapeshifters
• Vampires

Not bad just not for me. Read this one as a dramatised audio book and I just felt like all the sound effects was distracting. And I like spending upp my books so ether it was super slow talkin  speech or the the soundefects was like a carnival.
Interesting but the plot didn't wo me, it felt anticlimactic.
I get that is part of a series but I would have liked there to have advanced in plot, relationships and some character development as well. The romance if you even can call it that, was not for me. To much shape shifting talk of bodyparts. "Monsters" and stuff that wasn't my thing.

Not good, but I finished it, so not soooo bad? It had promising bits and was enjoyable enough, but it was undercut in multiple ways for me by cliché and overall a bit sloppy.

A great break from all my other reads! You know sometimes you looking for something to read and you just don't know what, nothing sounds good at the time? Well, this is the book for you. This is a fantastic fun read. I loved all the characters, and the FMC is a true badass. It is definitely dark but fun and I highly recommend it. I will be moving on to the next one now!

This book oozes 2000s humor and attitude. An easy read with an interesting world to build upon.

It loses points with Kate’s choice words sometimes
her hotheadedness comes off as childish for a 25 y.o. (at least to me)
. Though the foreshadowing was well placed and easy to miss.

Perfect for when you need an unapologetical MC to wreck havoc in every situation her walks into. Will be interesting to read rest of the series.
