This story is most importantly about love, and what extreme circumstances make us do for it.

This one took me 7 months to finish, quite literally. I almost gave up on it half way through, but randomly picked it back up one day and read the rest so quickly. Was completely moved by this one. A bit too much exposition for my taste, but a beautiful ending that has me in tears

I don’t even feel like I was reading a book. I watched the last 564 pages happen in black and white, as if Kristin Hannah and Steven Spielberg (Schindler’s List) teamed up to transport me back in time.

Alright, I know this is going to come off as very pushy, but...
YOU HAVE TO READ THIS BOOK!!!
Holy cow...
What a journey. I am a sucker for World War II historical fiction because I love reading stories of people - real or imagined - who persevered past what anyone would believe was possible, who committed both small and enormous acts of gallantry in the face of what was potentially the greatest evil the world has ever seen. Even when the stories are fictional you realize as you’re reading them that they could represent any number of lives of ordinary people during that time. This story is about two Parisian women living in German occupied France during WWII and it will break your heart. Most good literature breaks your heart in one way or another, though, so you should never let that deter you.
This book reveals a small piece of what you never learn in history class - that there were women who resisted the Nazis at every turn, who saved hundreds of people: Jews, downed airmen, and children of deported Jewish parents. At the end of the novel one of the characters expresses surprise that there were special concentration camps just for women resistors and our protagonist simply points out that “in war, men are the ones who tell the stories.”
This story is worth your time. Trust me.
