A truly solid 4 star read. I loved it, was sucked in from the opening and needed to know how it resolved. The mystery, the dark themes, the characters, the vivid and immersive settings throughout New York, the multimedia — ALL delightful, if you’re into that.
I have to deduct a star though because, as other reviews mention, it was unnecessarily long. I enjoyed how detailed the book was as it really immersed me — I could picture everything. BUT there were times I was annoyed by the ongoing and way too in depth details that added nothing to the story.
Overall, definitely recommend!

The story was amazing and I definitely got wrapped up in cult/magic aspect but I felt like the characters could've been more developed and I found Nora to be a very irritating character

One of the most powerfully imaginative novels I have ever read. It will swallow you whole for as long as it takes you to read it, and you will emerge changed. Warning: This book is not for the reader who easily gets nightmares.

This was…fine! Started off really strong, but the ending was a total slap in the face, making the length of the book feel self-indulgent at best and superfluous at worst. I was initially going to rate this three stars, but I’m so mad about the conclusion that I might actually have to lower it to two.

DO I DARE?
Well this book is a roller coaster. Kudos to Marisha Pessl for taking the story to the next level. It was amazing. It messes with your mind. Read it people. I learned something from this book, and boy did it just come just in time.

I don't know whether I loved or hated this book, whether I enjoyed or despised the ending.
This book is one of the rarest times I am just left awestruck. The ending, if there even is one, is so confusing, but also that's the point of the book? Everything is confusing, there is no answer.
When I was reading the book, there were moments where I absolutely loved it and was so deep into it, and there were moments where I was like, "Why the fuck did I spend nearly 700 pages reading this?"
If in the ending it was all Ashley's cancer, I would have been mad, if it was dark magic, I would have been, well, disappointed? I genuinely do not know what I expected from this book.
I am very confused at the moment, you know? I really have no idea about my opinion on this book. I didn't really "enjoy" enjoy it, also didn't hate it?
