Just not my thing, I guess. Took about a third before I wasn’t bored out of my miiiind. Of the last 2 thirds, a good amount was too on-the-nose and tiring. But a few of the characters finally became compelling, and I did love the author’s (and translator’s) voice and style. I feel like in the end it was better than a 3 star, but not a 4. I guess it’s too bad I live in a hockey town, ‘cause it’s just not my thing.

One of all the terrible effects of grief is that we interpret its absence as egotism.

if you are honest, people may deceive you. be honest anyway. if you are kind, people may accuse you of selfishness. be kind anyway. all the good you do today will be forgotten by others tomorrow. do good anyway.

benji ovich!!!!!! my babiest baby of all my babies. demorei pra engatar na leitura, mas sabia que ia amar desde a primeira página. chorei em muitos momentos, principalmente com a maya e o benji. e o benji…… queria proteger ele de tudo e de todos.

DNF @31% / 134 pages

I should probably just give up on contemporary novels. It's the second time this month I found myself bored out of my mind and DNF'ing a book. I just don't get the hype! 134 pages and nothing happened. There were hints that something would happen but at this point, I couldn't care less about it.
SpoilerI'd bet all my money that a girl gets raped at the upcoming party. It would fit the other clichés perfectly

On top of this plotless wasteland of a book: I was annoyed by chapter breaks. It felt like head-hopping taken to another level.

The characters themselves and their little dramas couldn't make me care either. They were either incredibly boring or walking chlichés.

Edit: I looked up what happens in the rest of the book, and wow, I'm glad I DNF'ed it.
