i loved the start of this one, especially 'How to Fuck a Man You Don't Know' which is basics told in reverse order (starting at the end) and ends with the initial fucking of the unknown man.
ofc always a big flan of some zoomorphism short story jam too. buttttt the stories kind of smushed up into each other by the end for me. might also be due to my chronic tonsilitis tho teeeheee who knows!

weird and dark and pretty gay short stories. the kind of book I'd like to read again in a few years. daisy Johnson is the ultimate writer crush. I wanna write like daisy Johnson. (not as good as her novel, Sisters, but really what is? that novel rocked my world and is top 5 favorite books for sure)
Strange and atmospheric. Really enjoyed these stories.
Johnson's poetic stories are strange and beautiful. I was reminded of Kelly Link or Karen Russell. Unusual, dark plots jolted me into alertness and pulled me into a world all new. Johnson draws connections between characters, settings, and even movie references, giving the stories a unifying thread that pulled the collection together. This is one I'll definitely want to reread.
I picked this up from my local library after seeing Jeff VanderMeer tweet about it. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I figured it would probably be a bit strange. And I was not wrong. I was very intrigued by the weirdness of some of the stories. I had never read anything by Daisy Johnson before, but I’m looking forward to reading more because of Fen.
Overall, I am very glad that I read this collection of short stories. I loved many of them, but others felt like they were lacking something for me personally so I’m giving this book four stars. I definitely want to reread some of the stories, so I already picked up my own copy of the book!
If anyone is looking to read Fen, I would recommend not looking too much up beforehand. I think not knowing much about the stories before really enhanced my reading experience by adding surprise and keeping me on edge.
