Oh my god… I have no words. Absolutely none... I don't write much reviews so bear with me here.

I went into this semi-blind, taking the content warnings into consideration. And I'm glad I didn't go into this blind because I don't think my mental health could handle it.

This book literally excelled my expectations and to be honest, this book kept me locked in so hard that I had to force myself to put it down (yes it's that good). A complete 10000/10 and a definite reread.

If you are someone that plans on reading this, please do look up the content warnings as this book has a lot of touchy subjects.

I feel like I saw a tiktok warning about how intense this book is, but I honestly didn't take it seriously. the beginning makes it seem like a bit of a gossip girl remake, but it's so much more than that. I couldn't stop reading especially during the second half, I read it all in one sitting I could not put it down. my heart breaks for chiamaka and devon, so much happens to them it's so tragic. although I'm very glad they got a happy ending, I don't know what I would've done if they didn't

At times quite predictable and most of the secondary characters seemed very flat. I did appreciate the
surprise wlw relationship
and I grew to like the main characters, even though they were extremely gullible at times - so gullible that it made the plot feel less believable. I did not really take much from reading this to be honest. Not really that stimulating overall.

It's not false advertising to market this book as Gossip Girl meets Get Out. The pace really picked up about halfway through, but I'd say the book could've easily been 100 pages shorter. That said, it was gripping and..."enjoyable" isn't quite the word...but I did really enjoy it!

Definitely reads like a TV show. I just wish we had more scenes of Chiamaka and Devon actually talking to each other and building a friendship. Also thought that maybe the story was trying to cover too much? Like there needed to be moments of relief at points. Overall I thought it was entertaining and had a good discussion on structural racism for the intended age group.
