I liked the artwork quite a bit and the story as well. We follow Thor in his past, present and future on a quest to destroy the God Butcher. Good stuff, I read it in one sitting.

I loved this! I started reading Thor relatively recently, partially because I enjoyed the Loki Agent of Asgard run and wanted backstory, partially because I wanted to see the Foster Thor. Prior to this most of the Thor comics have felt a bit meh to me, I enjoyed them still but they weren't comics I'd read again and again the first run through was enough, and during the Mighty Thor/Everything Burns story arc I even felt that the Loki portions of the story with Journey Into Mystery stole the show from him. I was starting to think maybe most of Thor's storylines went that way but here I was proven wrong, the God Butcher was awesome, and exciting and for the first time i felt like i was reading for Thor himself rather than the side characters!

A gripping, well written and brilliantly illustrated collection. Glad I have the 2nd book to hand already.

Quite epic but too wordy for my taste. But I finished all of it and it was quite interesting. Some of the storyline is still showing up in the current run of Thor.

I've discovered in my recent readings of Wonder Woman and The Sandman that I like reading comic books about gods, legendary folk tale beings and the like... So I decided to give Marvel's most famous god a whirl with the first volume of most recent incarnation of the title: Thor: God of Thunder.

I guess I should say that I LIKED reading all the comics about gods and folk tales and such up until this point.

The story really didn't satisfy me and Esad Ribic's art, while undeniably beautiful, just isn't right up my alley.

I hate to say it, but this is just another example, like many others, of a Marvel book I just can't get into.

I can't recommend this one.

*-I read this book as digitally downloaded single issues of Thor: God of Thunder #'s 1-5

I don't think I've read a Thor comic in 20 years - which is impressive mostly because I was a small child at the time - but this was a fantastic story to come back to.

Thor finds a dead god a thousand years ago and goes to hunt down the murderer. And he fails. In the present time, he discovers that gods are still being murdered across the cosmos and he tries once again to track down the God Butcher. And we also see that, in another thousand years, Thor the Allfather is still trying to combat the Butcher's berserker legions in the ruins of Asgard.

The split timelines make the action tense because you know Thor is going to fail. Rather, you're not sure how he's going to pull this off when we know the Butcher's around in two thousand years. The way the plot unfolds is intriguing, the art is fairly solid, and Thor is a badass all through his life. Very fun read.
