in short: i needed a fun interesting fantasy book with sprinkles of romance and this was just that.
like-able characters but holy, isabel gave me severe second hand embarrassment at the beginning. she's grown greatly as a character and i could never pass seeing a character like erik open up throughout the book. i also loved the fact there wasn't a huge insta love. but she did have immediate attraction towards him at the start and kept mentioning his hands a dying amount of times, but besides that--i did very much enjoy the two.
i will say, the plot felt slightly shaky at times. you're left with a questions like "how on earth did isabel get here?" because the logic given for why she's suddenly a guide makes little to no sense. the ending also felt rushed in a way where not only was it predictable, but left you with even more questions. maybe i missed something but they it felt like they were speeding through their obstacles.
the book unfortunately didn't leave me obsessed but i absolutely do not regret picking this up. again, super enjoyable and easy to get through. this will also probably bring me back to my fantasy reads again !!

FMC was refreshingly average and not a badass like most romantasy FMCs.
The start and end of the book is interesting, but the middle of the book (~40-80%) had me thinking I was dumb because I was struggling to follow what was being said because the FMC’s narration was so chaotic.

This was a fun ready that was easy to breeze through. The pacing was good, not very spicy if that's a pro or con for you. I would have liked to see more character and world building. The use of "modern" slang felt out of place at times with the world.
I"ll probably read the next one though since I'm curious where it'll go.
