This slow burn, bumbling espionage romantasy, has gotten under my skin. I promised myself I'd read this book because it sounded so intriguing. Intriguing it was. Death, Deception, Double Crosses, Near fatal mistakes, and sloppy attempts at seduction make this story sink its teeth into you, wanting to know more.
Why wasn't Isy treated seriously as the Physician's Assistant?
Why did both Erik and Signey have chips on their shoulds.
Why Hans? Stephen? Katrina?
What magic do those special boxes really hold?
Many of the questions remain unanswered. It makes this book even more enthralling. Read this book if you love:
๐ One Horse
๐ช She threatens him and he leans into it
๐ฎ Soothsayers and other magic
๐ตโโ๏ธ She's spying on himโฆdoing a terrible job of it.
๐ I See You
Thank you, Sarah Page, for writing such a banger of a book. It is marvelous.

Illusion of Stars started off a bit slow for me, but once I got into it, I was hooked. As I finished the novel, I realized that the detailed beginning served a purpose. The novel is character-driven, and I enjoyed the banter and relationships. I am committed to reading book two and am curious about how many books are planned for this series.
Isy, a royal physician, is awkward and relatable. She puts her trust in others but also has her own schemes (not always executed smoothly).
There is romantic tension and an enemies-to-lovers trope, but this book is not spicy. It offers a tame and sweet romance for those who don't want or need explicit scenes.
I enjoyed the fantasy elements in this story and found the magic of creating illusions similar to the magic in the Grishaverse.
The author did a great job addressing the issue of self-harm and the journey of realizing one's self-worth.
Thank you, NetGalley and Shadow Forge Publishing, for sending this book for review consideration.

I freaking LOVED this book. It was cosy, reminded me of a mix of vikings and scotland. It was dramione coded, I ate this up! The writing reminded me of the Shatter Me series! (The WRITING not the story!)
DNF @ 48% - I just could not get into this at all! Nothing was gripping me (plot, characters, nothing) and at the halfway point, I just have no clue what's going on because I'm so disengaged. Such a bummer.
