What a fun story! It's certainly had some agatha Christie Miss Marple vibes going on, and it was interesting how everything was wrapped up. I feel like the sequel will continue off some of this story. I will seek out the sequel this year for sure.

Loved this! Premise alone I knew I would enjoy this book, however I didn’t expect to love the characters as much as I do. Looking forward to more books in this series.

Its ok. The characters are underdeveloped and boring. The plot only makes sense like half the time. There are some funny/cute moments but they're generally overshadowed by shitty plot or bad character arcs. This book had potential but its kinda a flop.

Kirjassa on useita eri kertojia, joten lukija saa yllin kyllin perspektiivejä tapahtumien tarkasteluun.

Hyvää kirjassa on hahmojen välinen ystävyys.

This was a good book, but not great for audiobook listeners. There are a ton of characters to keep track of, and many have similar sounding names, so they were easy to get mixed up. At the end of the book, I still found myself wondering who certain characters were, which is too bad because the story was definitely interesting and fun. It is just hard to get attached to any characters when you don’t know who they are.

The premise of this story grabbed my attention more than anything in the actual book did.

There were far too many characters. Actually, each time you grasped who everyone was at least 2 more characters would be introduced. The writing style seemed to jump all over the place and constantly switched between perspectives making it extremely difficult to follow, especially via audiobook. I frankly didn't even care about the mystery or even bother guessing 'whodunit' because I was trying to constantly comprehend everything previously mentioned. Once all was revealed, it wasn't even impactful due to my constant confusions (and it of course featured multiple villainous monologues).

While I really didn't enjoy my overall experience reading this, I did manage to appreciate a few things which bumped my rating up to a 2. The humous tone helped to carry the story along and made a fairly dark book more light-hearted. I did enjoy the dynamic of the four main club members and specifically Elizabeth's shenanigans. And although the topics of death and grief could be heartbreaking I appreciated some of the conversations surrounding it.

I spent the majority of this audiobook wanting it to be over and if I hadn't been listening along with my husband it would've been an easy DNF. It's safe to say I won't be continuing on in the series.

SYNOPSIS:
  • Four residents of a nice retirement village meet to discuss unsolved crimes on Thursdays. The four residents are Elizabeth, Ron, Ibrahim, and Joyce, and they are all septuagenarians.
  • When a real murder happens, the group works together to solve it.

MY THOUGHTS
  • This was an excellent cozy mystery with a unique premise. I enjoyed all the characters, and the writing is great, too. The writing is witty & entertaining, and overall, it was a fun read.
  • The story is mostly told in third person narrative, but some chapters, which are presented as Joyce’s diary entries, are first person POV.
  • Charming, engaging read, and I adored all the members of the Thursday Murder Club. I hope I can find an equally amusing group when I am older & living in a retirement village.
  • There’s lot of red herrings, and there are a lot of characters. It took me a little bit to get all the names straight.

TL;DR: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️excellent cozy mystery with elderly folks as the main characters
