This is a great book, but the reason I gave it 4 and not 5 stars is because I think it has a bad marketing blurb. The main plot isn't really about the disappearance of Mr. Pickett, or anything. The plot of the overall book is divided into three main things: The Mr. Pickett case, Aza's relationship life and her thought spirals. If you're looking for a good mystery case solving novel, this is not it. If you're looking for a book about pretty friendships and romances, this is kind-of it but not really. If you're looking for information about C. Diff and parasites, you could start here.

I think it is a great comfort book, it has small town-country road pickup truck with that one rich kid in town vibes. The character's dynamic relationships weren't fun and fiction, which I really admire because the author brought the reality of the beauty of relationships into this book which just makes the character's relationships even more heartbreakingly beautiful. Everything isn't 100% amazing in the end but (at least for me) you don't walk away without not being able to accept it, because it just makes sense. I do wish the author made the book more about the Mr. Pickett case and I wish that Davis and Aza would have promised to talk to each other occasionally over the phone, since they could have still techichally communicated with their phones. Other than that, I love this book.

This, to me, is such an important book. Though the plot itself may not be tremendously innovative, Green's descriptions of the emotional highs and lows of life with anxiety/OCD are at once nauseating, jarring, and comforting in their accuracy. The last few paragraphs gave me goosebumps. As with "The Anthropocene Reviewed," I am profoundly grateful for Green's work here. A rare reread.
