John Green did it again… this book should be made into a movie or a tv show, top tier book! Took a little bit to get into but by chapter five I was engrossed and couldn’t put it down. I thought Green did a great job of writing the perspective of an individual with a distressing mental disorder, it was truly compelling and forced the reading to emphasize with the main character.

Rating: 4.5 stars

That was such an oddly awesome book! It was very different from John Green’s other novels, which made me like it even more. The book wasn’t about a mystery, it was about struggling to accept yourself for who you are and exist with both yourself and the people around you. Aza, the narrator, was so interesting to read from the perspective of, and it was a great insight into the mind of someone who is mentally ill.

I highly recommend this book. If you’ve read Green’s books before and they weren’t for you, try picking this one up - you may be pleasantly surprised!

Reread: May 2024

Listened to the audiobook in anticipation of the movie! There’s a reason I don’t read many teen books nowadays, yet even so I enjoyed myself here. Being inside Aza’s head is dark and complex, and I’m impressed by how deeply immersed you become. All in all, I’m glad I went back to John Green’s fiction after so long.
