I listened to the audiobook version. It was expertly narrated by Dick Hill, who died of cancer in October of this year. Mr Hill, also the narrator of the Jack Reacher series, narrated over 1000 audiobooks and was, in my opinion, one of the best in the business. His distinctive voice seamlessly brought to life all the characters in this book. The plot of the book is believable and interesting. While a doctor is at a medical convention his 5 year old daughter is kidnapped. There is nonstop action and lots of emotion. Me Iles style of writing draws you in at once and won't let go.
I will read anything Greg Iles writes. I couldn't put down the book. Very fast-paced. A lot of it was predictable, hence the rating, but it was still enjoyable.

Whew - what a nail biter. Terrifying in it's simplicity, this book outlines 24 hours in the lives of a family who is being terrorized by a madman who has kidnapped their child. Difficult to read in parts due to the subject matter, but draws you right in, and you can't put it down until it's finished. Gotta love it when the bad guys get their's in the end.
This books story has all the accoutrements of the south except for corn pone, collard greens, and hog jowls. The ending is as improbable as is finding anyone that actually likes the items just mentioned.
Pretty well-paced kidnapping drama where somebody is kidnapping children of wealthy doctors and extorting money out of them, repeating it year after year. The storyline is complex and it is easy to see Hollywood make use of it. I've grown fond of Iles' books lately, since they are above average in the crime genre.
I finished this book just in time to get on a plane. What timing, eh? There is no relief from the suspense in this one but you wouldn't expect it with a kidnapping. I think the best scenes were between the little girl and her kidnapper, Huey. It was so heartfelt and real. Greg Iles definitely didn't let us down on this one.
The book started a little slow but the last 150 pages were magnificent. I have read most of Iles' recent books and really liked them so I expected to like this and I wasn't disappointed. The characters are real and the situation was plausible.
