This book is now officially in my Top 5 favorite books of all time. This story grabbed me from page 1, and did not let go. The pacing was perfection, the turns and twists were dropped at exactly the right points, and the whole package and experience of this storytelling was just *chef’s kiss*.

The perfect marriage of authentic Appalachian culture and legends that come straight from the hills and jump right off the page and into your imagination. This one will stay with me for a long time, and has definitely kept me awake a few nights.

The last line of the book chilled me to the bone. The whole book leads up to it, and the answers are all right in plain sight, you just don’t realize you’re staring them in the face the whole time. Gregory is a genius and a master plotter.

Really REALLY liked this one. So eerie and captivating. Some good commentary on Christianity and religion in general, and the ties that bind us to our beliefs, for better or for worse.

Gregory never disappoints. I loved this hybrid gothic horror/SF romp. Stella is just the best character.

Idk i lost interest

Southern gothic with some Stephen King thrown in and an incredibly appealing heroine - tough as nails and wonderfully snarky. The whole cast of characters is really well-drawn, the story will keep you on the edge of your seat, and the ending will take your breath away. The only drawback for me is it was a bit more violent then I am comfortable with, but I'm a big scaredy-cat.
